The Monument will be a 1.25 life size image of a combat soldier kneeling in from of a comrade's hastily dug grave mounted on a 12 ft long by 8 ft wide by 8 ft high black granite faced base. On the front side of the base will be etched in bold letters the words "We Will Never Forget!". Below that will be a listing of the 196 Flathhead County Servicemen who have been killed while defending our Great Nation, starting with Fred Weaton in the Spanish-American War and currently ending with Edward Saltz in the Iraqi War. Spaces will be provided for those who fall in future conflicts. C.A. Grende a local artist has been commissioned to sculpt the memorial and will also sculpt a smaller replica the will be approximately 28 inchs long by 8 inches wide by 13 inches high. We intend to initially limit the casting to no more then 250. The first 196 will be commemorative issues that will have a brass plate engraved with the words "We Will Never Forget" followed by the name of one of the 196 service members killed in action. For example #1 will bear the name of Frank Wheaton – Spanish American War and #196 will bear the name Edward Saltz – Iraqi War. The family and/or descendants of these 196 will have first option (until July 15, 2006) to purchase these commemorative replicas. After that date those remaining will be available to the public. Those who wish to pay the purchase price and then donate the commemorative replicas to family or descendants are encouraged to do so! The general public may purchase the remainder in rememberance of a family member who was a veteran. We will personalize the brass plate with the family members rank, name, and conflict they participated in. The cost of the bronzes ar $2200 of which $1000 goes to the memorial fund. Bronzes will be delivered by May 15, 2007. |
